Staff advised that not all residents in the Township have the means or ability to provide electric fans or air conditioning. The purpose of the Kennel by-law, and the focus of Staff is to ensure that the animals are happy, comfortable and are being socialized. Staff are prioritizing this over enforcing strictly the code of practice.
Committee discussed natural ventilation as an option, and Staff are committed to working with kennel owners to ensure that the best practices to ensure safe, happy animals are being utilized. A discussion on the economic benefits of kennel businesses in the Township occurred. Staff will reach out to neighboring municipalities to see how standards are being enforced within other areas.
Simon Martin addressed the Committee at Committee's request and indicated that they were happy with the solution provided by Staff with respect to the concerns that had been submitted.
